Class Description
This course is intended to generate thought and action steps to better serve the needs of your diverse school community. The first step is to acknowledge difference: in our lived experiences, points of reference, and in our unintentional biases. As we explore these important principles, you will create an action plan to implement tangible ways to promote and celebrate your diverse community. You’ll also reflect and respond to some discussion prompts on the topic, as well as complete assignments to relate culturally responsive practices in your classroom and school community.
Learning targets for this class are:
- How can I grow in my appreciation for the diverse experiences my students bring to the classroom?
- How does bias unintentionally show up in my planning and teaching?
- What actions can I take to deepen my understanding of my school community and the diverse needs of my students and their families?
