Class Description
Classroom management is not simply the absence of discipline problems but an intentional set of practices that promote a positive environment for all students. What does this look like in the secondary classroom? Routines, procedures, protocols, and engaging strategies intentionally taught and reinforced prevent off-task behaviors and promote a caring and positive climate in the classroom. This course is designed to help teachers in grades 6-12 create a classroom management plan, with a specific focus on determining expectations and procedures to organize and manage the learning environment to maximize academic success. Participants will learn the importance of developing positive relationships with their students and have an opportunity to collaborate with other teachers throughout the region to share ideas and begin developing their management plan. This course supports teacher performance in Standard 7 of TKES and is suitable for both beginning and veteran teachers who wish to set their students up for success with proactive, positive classroom management supports.
