This full-day professional learning experience is designed specifically for paraprofessionals working in K–2 general education and special education classrooms. Participants will gain practical, research-based strategies for supporting students in foundational literacy and math instruction, positive behavior correction, and motivation. The course features hands-on training in phonics instruction based on Wiley Blevins’ A Fresh Look at Phonics and includes immediate-use literacy games aligned with the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Participants will also explore early numeracy tools such as subitizing cards, number talks, and 100 bead strings to strengthen students’ number sense. Through real classroom scenarios, role-play, and collaborative planning, paraprofessionals will leave with ready-to-use strategies to assist with positive error correction and motivating reluctant learners—drawing from Allen Mendler’s Motivating Students Who Don’t Care. This course is interactive, immediately applicable, and designed to boost the confidence and instructional impact of every paraprofessional.
