POSITION:     Regional Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) (Part-time)

 

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Part-time, Weekly Services for 39 weeks (6-7 hours weekly)

 

SUMMARY:A Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) that has served school systems in the South Metro region since 1966 seeks a qualified Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join the Griffin RESA team. The TVI will provide specialized instruction and support services to students with visual impairments, enabling them to access the curriculum, develop independence, and successfully participate in educational and community environments. Responsibilities include conducting assessments and evaluations, developing and implementing individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals and Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) needs, supporting the use of braille and assistive technology, and collaborating with families, educators, and related service providers to ensure comprehensive student support. The position also includes maintaining accurate documentation, participating in IEP meetings, and serving as a resource to school personnel regarding accommodations and instructional strategies for students with visual impairments. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, organized, and student-centered professional committed to promoting student achievement, independence, and inclusion.

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Professional Learning and Student Services

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in Visual Impairment
  • Recent K-12 school experience working with students with visual impairments
  • Demonstrated high-level skills in interpersonal skills, public relations, planning, organization, and implementation of activities with minimal supervision
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a public school setting
  • Valid driver’s license and daily transportation for transporting between schools
  • Technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related technology

 

COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB:

  • Expertise in Visual Impairments: Demonstrates specialized knowledge in visual impairments, including braille literacy, assistive technology, sensory efficiency, compensatory skills, and adaptations that support student access to the curriculum and learning environment.
  • Individualized Instruction: Ability to design and deliver individualized instruction aligned to students’ visual functioning, learning media assessments, Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) needs, and IEP goals to promote academic achievement, independence, and self-advocacy.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Proficient in conducting comprehensive evaluations to determine students’ needs and progress based on their visual abilities, including preparing detailed reports and recommendations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Strong ability to work with parents, educators, therapists, and peers to support students’ development and integrate TVI skills into various settings.
  • Attention to Safety: Committed to maintaining the safety of students during instruction while fostering independence.
  • Professionalism and Growth: Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, punctuality, and engagement in activities that promote ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple timelines, with attention to detail
  • Exceptional ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships
